How & Why a Hydrating Face Mist Transforms Skin

Dehydrated skin Vs Hydrated Skin

Can you see the difference in the pictures above despite me being 6 years older in the present one on your right? This is the change that hydrating your skin with natural products that do not strip or disturb the skin's natural balance can make to your complexion - the quickest, easiest way to say hello to plumper, fresher, balanced skin is with the right face mist.

Face mists, formulated with the right, effective ingredients are the ideal way to rehydrate, replenish and protect your skin, whatever your skin type - plus, they offer so much more than you might think - a double cleanse, a pH balance, oil control, skin microbiome support and so much more......

If you are challenged by rosacea, sensitive skin, dehydrated skin, breakouts, oily skin, dry skin or eczema prone skin then you need to make sure you are hydrating your skin with a water based humectant mist...

What you need to know

Dehydrated skin ages your complexion

Dehydrated skin is skin that is lacking in water hydration and displays as sallow, lacking in luminosity, looks tired and shows signs of premature ageing and exacerbates the natural signs of ageing, such as lines, uneven texture and loss of volume.

Dehydration can affect all skin types, even (in fact often) breakout prone and oily as we often do not think we need to hydrate oily and acne prone skin when in fact it is vital for oilier skins. Just look at the difference between Cath's dehydrated skin in the much earlier photo on the left, compared to the hydrated skin in one on your right!

The good news )(as you can see from the pics) is that dehydrated skin is not a permanent skin 'type' - it can be reversed and prevented with the right topical hydration.

Natural face mists offer an easy, on-the-go solution to rehydrate, plump and refresh your skin.

Glass skin is a myth

We didn't want glass skin. Hear us out. 'Glass skin' is a social media construction used to refer to an unattainable super smooth, texture free and pore free complexion - this is NOT what natural skin looks like. This idea of 'Glass skin' is often achieved by using clever lighting, beauty filters or overloading the skin with wet, shiny products just before filming. Instead of this unachievable version of  'Glass skin', we wanted our and your skin to be lit from within with a healthy natural glow that comes from skin that's well hydrated. For balanced, hydrated skin that radiates a healthy glow, head over to our humectant face mists.

Water won't cut it

You may be surprised as drinking more water is popular advice for helping skin but there isn't actually much solid evidence to back it up. The evidence indicates that drinking when you're thirsty will keep you adequately hydrated and beyond that drinking additional water doesn't seem to make much of a difference and in studies any skin changes were comparable to using a good moisturiser. (Reference: The Science of Beauty, Dr Michelle Wong).

Keeping your skin hydrated therefore isn't just about intaking enough hydration, it's about giving it the tools from the outside to draw the moisture to the skin and hold onto it. Moisturising topically is essential for improving and maintaining healthy skin: "as well as promoting a smooth, radiant complexion, it supports the skin's natural barrier function, protecting it from environmental stressors." (Ref: The Science of Beauty, Dr Michelle Wong.)

Incorporating a natural humectant face mist into your skincare routine will deliver essential hydration to better your skin.

Dehydrated skin can be reversed & prevented

To fix dehydrated skin use water based products containing humectant ingredients - we use natural humectants such as raw honey, aloe vera and glycerine. These humectant ingredients are excellent at holding onto water, slowing down evaporation from your skin to prevent and fix dehydrated skin.

We use plant glycerine in our face mists, a brilliant humectant ingredient that also has the advantage of being able to travel and take water through small channels in the skin called aquaporins, so it can hydrate more deeply.

10 Reasons to use a Face Mist

1. Soothing not stripping

Ever felt that stinging sensation from mainstream toners or mists? Many conventional products contain alcohol and harsh preservatives that irritate the skin and accelerate the natural ageing process. Instead, opt for a gentle, soothing face mist made from natural floral waters and botanical extracts to calm, nourish and support your skin's delicate barrier whether you are dry, dehydrated, oily sensitive or rosacea prone.

2. Glycerine: The Hydration Hero

You’ve probably heard of hyaluronic acid—a popular skincare ingredient—but have you met its natural, plant-derived sister: vegetable glycerine? This natural plant humectant penetrates deeper into the skin, attracting moisture from the air to hydrate from the surface to the deeper layers. It helps lock in moisture, leaving your skin softer, plumper and glowing.

3. Healthy Hydration

Dehydrated skin is often the result of lacking water, while dry skin lacks oil. For optimal skin health, you need both water and oil. While most of us are quick to reach for thick creams or oils, we often forget to incorporate a hydrating, water-based mist to prevent dehydration.

Try the hydration sandwich technique: after cleansing, apply your face mist while your skin is still damp, then follow with your oil or serum and then mist again before following with your moisturiser. Finish with another mist to lock everything in. This technique improves dehydration lines and gives your skin that radiant, glowing complexion - it is a hack we and our customers swear by.

7. PH Balancer

Healthy skin relies on a balanced pH to lock in moisture and defend against harmful bacteria. Your skin’s natural pH is slightly acidic (around 4.7 - 5.5) - using products with the wrong pH can cause dryness and breakouts.

Everyday things such as cleansing, using harsh chemical skincare, over ladening skin with products, sweating, tap water, weather changes, touching your face and hormones disrupt your skin's delicate pH barrier. A disrupted barrier leads to dryness and sensitivity, excess oil and breakouts, premature ageing and dull, uneven skin tone.

A pH-friendly face mist helps restore your skin’s natural PH balance, keeping it resilient against free radicals, premature ageing, dehydration, irritation and strengthening the skin barrier.

8. Improves oily and breakout prone skin

In oily skin, just like dry, the stratum corneum's (skin barrier) water content can drop below the 20-30% needed for optimal skin function. When this happens skin cells shrink leading to flaking and cracking which can cause oily skin to feel dry and oily at the same time. (Ref: The Science of Beauty, Dr Michelle Wong).

Oily skin needs hydration just like drier skin types, a lack of hydration can cause an overproduction of sebum and weaken the skin's barrier leading to even oilier skin and breakouts. Without adequate skin hydrating products, the skin's natural exfoliation process (desquamation) slows down, leading to a build up of dead skin cells which in turn contribute to clogged pores and breakouts.

A great way to hydrate oilier skin without causing clogging is by using a humectant face spritz - oily skin really benefits from the lightweight moisturising humectants we include in our face mist formulations. Using your pH friendly mist will also help restore the pH of oilier skin (which is often unbalanced) to its optimum level for keeping your skin resilient against bacteria and external aggressors.

9. Helps Rosacea & Sensitive skins

Rosacea is one of the most common skin conditions. It happens when sensitive skin isn't just sensitive but there's redness too. On a molecular level, with rosacea skin, there is increased inflammation (elevated cytokines TNF, matrix metalloproteinases), which ultimately manifests as redness and pain. Second, there is a know abundance of a mite called Demodex in rosacea skin. Third, rosacea skin has a poor barrier and therefore more sensitive to environmental and external assaults. (Ref: The Science of Beauty, Dr Michelle Wong).

The Demondex mites thrive when the skin barrier is compromised and inflammation is high. A humectant face mist can help with rosacea skin's barrier repair and upkeep, with inflammation and sensitivities, by providing hydration without irritation, enhancing barrier support and by cooling and soothing and refreshing without overloading skin.

I have been using Honeybee facial spritz for some time. I have recently started using the spritz before & after each stage of my skincare regime and my skin looks so much plumber & radiant.
