Are you left feeling deflated and out of pocket, having tried numerous products and still not seeing or feeling the benefits for your skin?
Perhaps nothing seems to suit your skin, despite working for everyone else and being accompanied with lots of marketing hype? If this strikes a chord, then read on to discover 7 achievable ways to unlock happy, healthy, soothed, radiant skin - naturally - that you are likely overlooking.
7 Achievable Skincare Secrets
Are you missing out on these?
1. Decoding Your Skin Type
Unsure of your skin type? Then this is the first thing to rectify, as you are likely using the wrong products for your skin.
Wait! Knowing your skin type is crucial for choosing the right skincare products and routine to achieve optimal results. Using products suitable for your skin type whether it is dry, oily, sensitive, or acne prone can help you choose products suitable for your skin type enhancing the effectiveness of your skincare and reducing the risk of adverse reactions, promoting healthier, happier skin.
Think you know your skin type? If you haven’t readdressed and revaluated your skin type in the last 6 – 12 months, then it’s time to reassess without delay, as this is often a common reason why skincare products are not working for you.
Why? Our skin type changes over time due to hormonal changes such as pregnancy, perimenopause, menopause, post-menopause, sun exposure, ageing, environment changes, seasonal variations, and stress. For example, oily skin might become drier, or, your skin may journey from oily/combination/balance to becoming sensitive.
How do I find out my skin type?
- Cleanse skin and pat dry, DO NOT apply any product
- Leave skin for 30 minutes
- Assess how your skin looks and feels:
- Tight, dry, redness, flaky = dry skin type
- Oily/shiny T zone but tight, dry elsewhere= combination skin type
- Oily/shiny/slick all over = oily skin type
- Neither dry, tight, oily or shiny anywhere = normal/balanced skin type
- Red, sore, stinging, itchy, visible capillaries, feels ‘exposed’, swollen = sensitive skin type

2. Swapping Harsh Actives for their Natural Alternatives
Do you know what’s in your skincare? Reading your skincare ingredient labels can be a complete minefield – but if there is a rather long list on the back of your products, with red flags such as ‘parfum’, ‘fragrance’, ‘SLES’, ‘SLS’, 'colours/colourants', 'parabens, phthalates', ‘-cones’ and 'mineral oil', then it is very likely your products are harbouring rather than helping your skin.
Although often raved about, if you are using synthetic actives such as retinoids, Hyaluronic acid, peptides, AHA’s, BHA’s or vitamin C and find your skin is misbehaving, even dryer or even oilier than before, then this is your sign to give your skin a break and try a more natural, gentle skincare regime.
In our natural skincare range, we have made the following swaps from these actives to natural, effective ingredients for working their magic on your skin:
Natural alternatives in our face care
Rosehip oil, carrot oil, beeswax
Raw honey, beeswax, glycerine, aloe vera
Sunflower oil, rosehip seed oil, raw honey, rice bran oil
AHA’s and BHA’s
Raw honey (natural PHA’s), citrus floral waters, citrus essential oils, soft sugar, jojoba seeds
Rosehip oil, vitamin E, chamomile, neroli, red mandarin
Shea butter, olive oil, jojoba oil, sweet almond oil, evening primrose, borage oil
Trust in nature rather than synthetic actives and pare your skincare ingredients right back. Opt for natural, gentle, effective ingredients over a huge list of harsh chemicals and mainstream skincare made up of fillers and water - your skin will thank you.
3. Discovering Raw Honey & Beeswax Skincare
Why is raw honey and beeswax so good for my skin?
Just as beeswax and honey play a vital role in maintaining the health and functionality of the beehive by providing protection, regulated moisture control, a sterile environment and a nutrient-rich, antimicrobial, healing agent - these qualities translate into skincare benefits for us.
They attract and retaining moisture and create a breathable skin barrier shield, protecting your delicate facial skin from trans-epidermal water loss and protecting from environmental aggressors. Both are nutrient-rich and packed full of toxin-neutralising antioxidants.
We only use locally sourced raw honey (this means pure, unadulterated, unfiltered and unheated) and pure beeswax. They are both non-comedogenic, gentle, breathable and are beneficial for all skin types.

4. Prioritising Your Skin Barrier
Your skin barrier plays a pivotal role in maintaining your skin’s health and appearance. Like a protective shield, our skin barrier helps keep out harmful substances while locking in moisture. If your skin is dry, itchy, red, irritated, sensitive, rough texture or prone to breakouts, it's a sure sign your skin barrier is weak and neglected.
To keep your skin barrier healthy and to heal a weakened skin barrier, adopt a gentle skincare routine, avoid harsh ingredients, and use skin barrier supporting products – think fatty acids, lipids, humectants, emollients, and occlusives.
How our skincare set supports your skin barrier?
- Honey and beeswax soap - mild and moisturising cleanser
- Cleansing balm – gentle cleaning action, SLS-free, no harsh exfoliators
- Face mist – glycerine-rich, adds hydration deep into the dermis
- Face oil – emollient, raw honey as a humectant and healer, plant oils packed with fatty acids and lipids
- Face cream – beeswax as a protective shield and breathable occlusive, raw honey to soothe, cocoa butter, rich in fatty acids and antioxidants, stimulates collagen to aid in skin elasticity and overall barrier strength.
5. Embracing Super Sensitive Skincare
Feel like your skin is reactive to whatever products you try, even those specifically meant for sensitive skin like yours? Our best-selling fragrance and essential oil-free Sensitive Bee range has helped so many customers that were in the position you are now.
Beeswax and raw honey are the perfect natural soothers and healers for skin that is already irritated and for preventing any further sensitivity – well-tolerated for the most sensitive of skins, purely natural and local with no additions or preservatives, naturally moisturising, protecting and anti-inflammatory.
Or, perhaps, whatever your skin type, you prefer your face care as natural and minimalist as possible without any fragrance? Let our Sensitive Bee starter kit come to the rescue - a full skincare routine in starter sizes so you can try them out on your delicate skin.
6. Applying Your Products to Damp Skin
If your skincare is not giving the results you had hoped, you are probably not doing this! Always apply your skincare layers (apart from SPF and vitamin C if you use) to damp skin - either use your hydrating face spritz or water.
This is necessary as the humectant ingredients in our skincare, be it hyaluronic acid, raw honey, aloe vera - to name a few - attract moisture from the air and retain moisture to nourish our skin.
But, these moisture magnets need to find this moisture in the first place, and unless we are living in an incredibly humid environment so that the moisture can be drawn from the air, then instead the moisture will be pulled from the lower layers of our skin - over time (although the top layer of skin may look plumped and nourished) the deeper layers are drying out and eventually your skin will end up dried out with all the moisture sucked out of it.
Popping your products onto dampened skin will prevent this from happening, allow better absorption of your skincare and ensure all layers of your skin are deeply hydrated and plumped.
7. Not Skipping Vital Steps in Your Skincare Routine
If your skincare is not delivering, perhaps you are missing out a step in your routine that could really make all the difference; now’s your perfect time to shine and rethink your routine to ensure it is delivering all the essential nourishment for happy, healthy skin:
